When UIA NSW donors give, the impact reaches deep into the lives of Israelis still reeling from October 7 and its long aftermath. Your gifts are funding mental-health and resilience programs at the ADI Negev–Nahalat Eran Rehabilitation Village, where children and families are slowly reclaiming their lives.
Healing families by rebuilding confidence
Carmit Edri’s 19-year-old daughter Ron lives with disabilities and was deeply shaken by the war. Carmit describes how, through shared meals, social-skills coaching and guided therapy sessions the support group has become a lifeline for the whole family, “these meetings brought us light, joy and an amazing experience, creating a sense of belonging to a new, large family… My daughter was empowered and her self-confidence increased. This is the most she has thrived since October 7.”
Animal therapy reaches children where words cannot
For Oshrit Kurs, canine-assisted therapy has helped her son and daughter recover from the terror they experienced in Ofakim, “since they started, the improvement in their behaviour and sense of personal security is so clear… my daughter feels a bit more secure and less afraid. My young son’s behaviour has begun to improve - and as an added bonus they are less afraid of dogs now!” Animal-assisted programs at ADI Negev meet children on their own terms, creating trust and helping them express feelings they have kept locked inside since the war began.
Finding a voice again
Another mother recalls how her daughters arrived at their first small-animal therapy session silent and withdrawn, “while they played with rabbits, the therapist facilitated a group discussion about resilience. The physical interaction gave them confidence and reassurance to speak up. This was the first time since the war that my daughters have spoken to anyone outside of our family.” Moments like these show how gentle, creative therapies can break through trauma when traditional counselling is too confronting.
